How the E-Challan System Works in Delhi — A Complete Guide

The e-challan system is the digital backbone of traffic enforcement in Delhi NCR. Introduced as part of India's traffic modernisation initiative, the e-challan system uses cameras, sensors, and manual handheld devices to issue electronic challans — eliminating paper-based processes and improving transparency.

How to Check Your E-Challan

01
Visit Parivahan Portal
Go to echallan.parivahan.gov.in — the official government portal for checking and paying e-challans.
02
Enter Details
Enter your vehicle registration number or challan number and your driving licence number.
03
View Pending Challans
All pending challans linked to your vehicle will be displayed with details of the violation and fine amount.
04
Pay or Contest
You can pay the fine online via the portal or choose to contest the challan if you believe it was wrongly issued.

What Happens If You Don't Pay?

Unpaid e-challans can result in vehicle registration renewal being blocked, court summons, and increased penalties. It is advisable to address pending challans promptly. If you believe a challan is wrong, contest it through proper legal channels rather than ignoring it.
