Settle Your Traffic Challan at Delhi Lok Adalat (25 October 2026)
A National Lok Adalat is being held in Delhi on Sunday, 25 October 2026, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. It is one of the easiest ways to clear your pending traffic challans in a single visit — often at a lower, final amount. Here is a simple, step-by-step guide to help you prepare.
What Is a Lok Adalat?
A Lok Adalat (People's Court) is an official forum that helps people settle cases quickly and peacefully, without a long court battle. For traffic challans, the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) and the Delhi Traffic Police organise Lok Adalats where you can appear, agree to a settlement, and close your challan the same day.
How Much Can You Save?
In past sittings, many compoundable challans were settled at a reduced amount — reportedly around half of the original fine in several cases. Important: there is no fixed discount. The final amount is decided by the bench based on the offence and your record, so treat any figure as an estimate, not a guarantee.
Which Challans Can Be Settled?
- ✓Eligible: compoundable traffic challans pending on the Virtual Court portal (for example — overspeeding, red-light jumping, no helmet, no seatbelt, no insurance, wrong parking).
- ✓The challan should have been forwarded to the Virtual Court — you can check this on the Delhi Traffic Police portal.
- ✓Not eligible: drunk driving, hit-and-run, anything linked to an FIR, and other non-compoundable offences.
- ✓If you believe a challan is wrong (wrong number plate, location, time, or a duplicate), it is better to contest it rather than settle it.
How to Book Your Token
Good to Know Before You Book
- ✓Booking is online only — walk-ins without a valid printed token are generally not allowed.
- ✓Tokens are limited, with a daily cap, so book early before slots run out.
- ✓There are limits on how many challans/notices you can settle per vehicle — private and commercial vehicles have different limits.
- ✓If your mobile number is not linked to the vehicle, update it on the portal first, otherwise you may not receive the booking OTP.
What to Bring on the Day
- ✓Printed Lok Adalat token / appointment slip
- ✓Printout of the challan
- ✓Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC) — original and a copy
- ✓Original driving licence
- ✓Valid PUC (pollution) certificate and insurance
- ✓Aadhaar or any photo ID (recommended)
Where Is It Held?
Delhi Lok Adalats are held across district court complexes — Tis Hazari, Patiala House, Rouse Avenue, Karkardooma, Rohini, Saket and Dwarka. Choose the complex nearest to you while booking your token.
Other Ways to Settle
If you miss the Lok Adalat date, you still have options. Delhi also runs Weekend Traffic Courts (on Sundays and the second Saturday) and Evening Courts (after regular court hours on working days) for compoundable challans. You can use these in the meantime.
Beware of Fraud
The DSLSA does not call people to ask for money over the phone for Lok Adalat settlements. If someone calls demanding payment or personal details, do not share anything — use only the official Delhi Traffic Police / DSLSA portals.
